Did we tell you we are releasing a Giggly Kids BOOK?

19 Feb

Giggly Kids are excited to announce that we’ll be releasing our very first picture book this April!

‘Hot Air Balloon’ is one of our favourite songs from our Album ‘Ready, Set, Giggle!’ and we’ve turned it into a delightful picture book with illustrations drawn and painted by South Australian artist Robin Tatlow-Lord.

We will be celebrating the release of ‘Hot Air Balloon’ with a super fun book launch party in April!

Also, NEW SONGS! That’s right, we’ve been working on some new material which will be featured in upcoming shows. We’re planning to release another CD later in the year, keep those ears open as we announce details of the CD release for around September.

Giggly Kids are performing again this year in the production of ‘Edward and Edwina the Emus’ with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. The lovable picture books come to life with emu puppets and an incredible musical score which captivate children and adults alike. Don’t miss these special performances at The Forge Theatre, Marryatville High School on the 1st and 2nd of March. Booking details can be found here.

Keep Giggling!

7,000 km’s and 7,000 smiles

24 Aug

We certainly live in a beautiful country. Dave and Kate just drove over 7,000 km’s through VIC, NSW and QLD performing shows in Libraries, Schools and Community Centres. What an amazing experience. Thanks to the following groups for having Giggly Kids;

Grange, Garden City, Chermside, Indooroopilly, Carindale, Gladstone, Miles, Chinchilla, Inglewood, Goondiwindi and Broken Hill Libraries AND Mundubberra, Eisdvold and Monto communities and LittleHampton Pre-School!

It’s The Reading Hour! The Reading Hour is both a headline event for the National Year of Reading 2012, and our call to action for families – “share a book with your child for 10 minutes a day, an hour a week”.

The Reading Hour is nominally 6pm to 7pm on 25 August, but there are over 200 registered events happening all day, in libraries, bookstores, schools, festivals and other public places around the country for families to enjoy.

Giggly Kids are celebrating with the Clare Valley Library SA for an evening of fun with a pajama party! Maybe these will be good to wear at the performance?

You can find more information about the Reading Hour and National Year of Reading Programs here: http://www.love2read.org.au/

Our next big gig is for the Coal to Coast Festival in Mackay QLD on the 8th of September. But stay tuned as we update the gigs calendar soon with more SA shows. If you think your library, pre-school or kindy would like a visit from Giggly Kids, get in contact!

We hope to see you at a show soon.

Emus, Reading, and Touring. Emus read and tour right?

30 Jul

Greetings! We had a ball over the school holidays and we hope you did too. Dave and I had a wonderful time with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra during the holidays performing “Edward and Edwina the Emus”.

We also had some excellent shows at West Lakes Library, thanks so much to everyone who came along to that. Now that the holidays are over, we’re off and away on our QLD Tour!

We’re going to Melbourne first, so that Kate can visit the Starlight Children’s Foundation at the Melbourne hospital for some Starlight Fun. Then we head to Byron Bay to see some incredible musicians play, and we will be doing some song writing for the next album.

‘The Reading Hour Tour’ is then taking us to Brisbane, Gladstone, inland to Mundubberra and surrounds, Goondiwindi all the way down to Broken Hill NSW and back to SA. Phew!

New songs anyone? We have booked some time to get creative and write, write, write! Where better than the stunning surrounds of Byron Bay to get inspired for new material.

We’d like to think about a new album before the end of the year, so preparations are under way for a song writing bonanza.

We’ve just finished a song for the National Year of Reading and ‘The Reading Hour” which is an initiative to encourage people to read for an hour a week or ten minutes a night. Check back to listen to it as we’ll be uploading it soon!

So be sure to check out the gig guide to see if we are doing a show near you! We’re very excited about this tour, and can’t wait to visit all these lovely libraries and schools.

Giggly Kids are proud to be Reading Ambassadors for The National Year of Reading 2012! Here is a little bit of information from the Love2read website about what it’s all about;

The National Year of Reading 2012 is about children learning to read and keen readers finding new sources of inspiration. It’s about supporting reading initiatives while respecting the oral tradition of storytelling. It’s about helping people discover and rediscover the magic of books. And most of all, it’s about Australians becoming a nation of readers.

Nearly half our population can’t read with any fluency. Here are three goals which will help us turn Australia into a nation of readers and encourage a reading culture in every home:

  • For all Australians to understand the benefits of reading as a life skill and a catalyst for well-being;
  • To promote a reading culture in every home; and
  • To establish an aspirational goal for families, of parents and caregivers sharing books with their children every day.

Next year will see a whole heap of amazing, fun, reading activities taking place around Australia and online, so people of all ages, from different backgrounds, can discover and rediscover the joy of reading.

You can find information about all the Reading Ambassadors here: http://www.love2read.org.au/ambassadors.cfm

Happy Reading everyone!
